The Kiss of Life - A utility worker giving mouth-to-mouth to co-worker after he contacted a low voltage wire, 1967
Taken in 1967 by Rocco Morabito, this photo called “The Kiss of Life” shows a utility worker named J.D. Thompson giving mouth-to-mouth to co-worker Randall G. Champion after he went unconscious following contact with a low voltage line. Thompson over 400 feet away recognized the critical situation and ran to the pole and scaled it to reach Champion. Realizing champion wasn’t breathing he delivered CPR and chest compression while supporting his friend; super impressive /difficult given the angle (if you get it wrong air goes into the stomach and inflates that instead).
This all happened oddly in Champions work anniversary. And weirder Rocco Morabito, a newspaper photographer who had been covering a strike down the road with eastern freight (this happened in Florida btw) happened to be nearby with his camera in a time that no one carried cameras daily. This photo won him the Pulitzer Prize for journalism photography.
Babe are you okay? I saw you reblogged The Kiss of Life, 1967 again.
Champion lived and he and Thompson stayed friends for the rest of their lives.

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
i hope this is alright for me to add, but this poem references a line from one of hitler’s speeches ordering the genocide of polish jews. at the end of the speech, he justified the genocide by saying “who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the armenians?” in a very literal way, genocides are interconnected and used to justify one another. after all, the holocaust was partially modeled after the united states’ genocide of indigenous people. this is why it is so important to remember the victims of all genocides across history, and why it is so important for oppressed peoples to stand together in solidarity.
thinking about how good friendship is…..like two people just like each other….and choose over and over to spend time with each other……quite special how diverse human relationships are..every friendship is special and u cant be close friends with everybody…..for some unknown reason certain people just enjoy each other..and i think we take for granted how fantastic that is
i keep seeing misinformation about this, so: queerplatonic relationships do not have a set definition. the name comes from the idea that it’s “queering” the platonic relationship, tailoring it to the individual relationships’ own desires. it isn’t necessarily romance lite, but it also isn’t necessarily whatever definition you want to impose on it. the point of queering the platonic relationship is to break away from strict allonormative views on friendship, romance, and sex, not to make a new categorical box to fit in.
the answer to “what is a qpr?” is “whatever you want it to be.” sometimes that is romance lite. sometimes it’s a deeply committed friendship. sometimes it’s friends who have a sexual relationship. sometimes it’s based on an entirely different mode of attraction. sometimes it’s fluid and impossible to put into words. it’s whatever you want it to be. it’s queer.
